What’s Your Story?

Tell Your Story and Make it Convert

I just received an email from Magnetic Sponsoring today and thought this would be a fabulous post to share with you today.  It resignated with me and gave me an Ah-ha moment. Here is what I realized…..every 6 and 7 figure earner seem to have a story to tell.  Have you noticed that? “How I went from dead broke, living in a trailer, to making millions in 24 months” or ‘”how I went from waiting tables to 7 figures in 18 months” or mine, “Busy Mom of 2 Discovers……”Sound familiar?  Think about it….who tells stories? Mark Hoverson, Jonthan Budd, Mike Dillard, Katie Freiling, Jay Kubasek, and the list goes on.

It seems that stories sell in our industry.  Eben Pagain calls this story the Conversion Story Formula.  Telling a success story makes it real, especially when you hear the story from a 7 figure earner, who started out no different than you.  Their story creates a sense of trust and comfort.  In the end we buy from those individuals, simply because we feel a connection.
Now I am not saying go out and create a bogus success story to make some sales.  I am all about the fact that you do NEED a success story but make it real!  I don’t care if it isn’t a tear jerker, or you haven’t hit it big yet or if it doesn’t pull on someone’s heart strings.  You story just needs to be authentic and you should keep adding to your success story as you progress upwards within the industry. We all have a story within us, you just need to find it and share it, but how?
Here’s why story-telling is one of the most important skills you can learn:
  • When you’re telling a story, your prospect has their guard down.
  • When you’re NOT telling a story, your prospect is critical.
  • The more your prospects can relate to your story, the more they can connect with you as a leader…They start to know, like, and trust you, AND ultimately buy from you.

So here are some tips I picked up from Magnetic Sponsoring’s post to help you create your story:

This simple, 7 step formula will work to tell your story e.g. your blog’s “about me” page, capture page, sales letters, videos, etc

1. Your starting situation.

  • Where you were when you first started.
  • This should overlap your prospects current situation.
2. Tried and failed.
  • Vivid, emotional story of trying and failing.
3. Breakthrough.
  • You learned something that miraculously worked, or accidentally stumbled upon something that worked.
4. You started achieving consistent results.
  • You finally “got it” and began having predictable results.
5. I created a method.
  • You refined what you learned into a system.
6. Others did it too.
  • I taught other people my system, and they got consistent results as well.
  • Use testimonials for social proof.
7. Now YOU can learn it too.
  • Now I want to show you my system.
  • Give them a call to action e.g. Sign up to my newsletter below, click the “add to cart” button below, etc
Wa la!  There you go. All you need to do is put in your your own unique experiences and you will also be able to craft a compelling success story that draws prospects in and makes them want to work with your or spend money with you.
Now for those of you who do not have a story, I want to encourage you to get out there and create your story, today!
