Personal Development Activities
Personal development activities are something that all successful people continue to work on. Without personal development activities one would become stagnant, complacent, and most likely fall behind.
As I sit here on the couch reading a blog about how to write blogs, Michelle is sitting next to me, lap top on her lap, head phones on, watching some video or training. All of the sudden she pulls off her head phones and says to me,
“Bill check out this capture page! How cool is that?” I look at the capture page and think to myself “Well, it looks a lot like all of the other capture pages I’ve seen. “ (I’m still kind of new to capture pages).
Michelle continues, “I’ve got to watch this video to see how they made this so can I update my own capture page to be more like this one.”
Michelle has been in Network Marketing for over a year, has achieved significant recognition for her understanding of Facebook Marketing, has been all over the affiliate leader boards, and she’s speaking at the LTD 2 event in October yet she is sitting here telling me that she needs to watch this video in order to improve her lead capture page. My first thought was, “Shouldn’t you have done that already? Like, months ago???”
My second thought was, “If you’re supposed to be this so called expert how come you need to watch someone else’s video to optimize or improve your lead capture page? I thought you already knew everything.”
And then it occurred to me; personal development activities.
According to Wikipedia personal development activities include activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitates employability, enhance quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations.
Hmmm, sound like something that network marketers are seeking to achieve? Enhance quality of life? Realize dreams and aspirations? If you’re anything like me the reason you got into Network Marketing was to enhance your quality of life and realize your dreams and aspirations. So by definition, all network marketers should participate in personal development activities.
And that’s what Michelle was doing earlier today when she decided that her current lead capture page could be more effective. She could’ve worked on dozens of other things this morning but instead she decided to take the time to watch this video, learn something new, and take action by applying what she learned. In short, she was engaging in personal development activities.
By constantly partaking in personal development activities you will become not only a better network marketer but a better person too. These activities will enable you to develop your talents, enhance your quality of life, and realize your dreams. And who doesn’t want that? There is a Chinese proverb that says, “Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still.”
