For Your Blog:
WordPress.org – If you want to start a blog we strongly recommend you use WordPress.
It’s easy, free, and very customizable.
For example, our website Onlinewealthpartner.com is a WordPress blog.
WordPress is essentially the best and most popular blogging software available.
And to be clear, we’re referring to wordpress.org not wordpress.com (yes, there is a difference!).
If you want to dig deeper to understand the differences between the two you can read this article HERE
Or you can just trust me and go with WordPress.org
Hosting:
Now that you’ve got your WordPress.org blog you’ll need to have a company provide web hosting for you.
Simply put, web hosting is a service that allows you to post your website/blog onto the Internet.
There are several different web hosting options.
Some good, some bad, and some ugly!
Since 2010 we’ve personally gone through many different hosting companies.
Now you might be wondering what makes a good hosting company and what should go into your decision making process.
Here are a few things to consider:
- How good is the company’s customer support?
- Do they have long hold times for support?
- Does the company offer 24 hour access to support?
- How strong is their security protection?
- How user friendly is the hosting service?
At one point or another we used Hostgator and Bluehost for our hosting.
However, we felt where they lacked was strong security protection.
We had our sites hacked while using those different hosting companies and the customer support wasn’t responsive enough to our situation.
Therefore, after searching high and low we recommend you use A2 Hosting.
Their customer support is amazing and the response time is fast.
They even have built in security at no extra cost to protect your sites.
I can’t stress this enough….we have been hacked… and it was a nightmare!
It took me over a week to get all our sites cleaned up.
If you plan on hosting don’t just choose any company, choose wisely and this is why we recommend A2 hosting.
WordPress Hosting:
WP Engine – I can’t stress enough how important speed of your site is and safety.
If you have a wordpress blog there’s a chance you’ll eventually get hacked.
This is primarily due to outdated plugins where the hackers found a back door.
After some research we decided we didn’t want to host our blog on a generic hosting site.
So instead we chose WP Engine.
A great advantage to using WP Engine is that specialize in hosting WordPress blogs and they handle all the security for you.
WordPress Plugins:
If you didn’t know, a wordpress plugin is a piece of software that enables additional functionality to your existing WordPress website.
Simply put, a plugin will add features or enhance functionality to make your WordPress blogging experience more robust.
If you’re still a little confused, look at a plugin the same way you’d look at an app for your smart phone or tablet.
There are thousands of free plugins available in WordPress as well as some premium (paid) plugins too.
Here are a few of our favorite WordPress plugins…
Yoast SEO – Yoast is the most complete WordPress SEO plugin that exists today for WordPress users.
It incorporates everything you’ll need in order to optimize your blog posts for SEO purposes.
Pretty Link – We recommend Pretty Link for a couple of reasons.
First off it makes all of your ugly long affiliate URL’s look “pretty”.
For example instead of http://awesomeproduct.com/47632/id48488/?=4848…
… you can take that ugly link and make it pretty by pasting into Pretty Link.
Pretty Link will then spit out something like this: onlinewealthpartner.com/am.
Pretty neat, huh?
The second reason, the Pretty Link you just created redirects to your original link.
In our experience Pretty Link is much more reliable than bit.ly or other link shortening services.
Legal Pages – If you’re going to start advertising – especially if you advertise on Facebook – you need to have a privacy policy on your capture pages.
But it’s tough to know what you should and shouldn’t say in your privacy policy.
This plugin offers templates and solutions so you can easily add privacy policies to your page.
If you are using Lead Ads via Facebook by the way, you MUST have a link to a privacy policy.
This plugin will help you create those policies.
Header & Footer Code – An essential plugin if you do any sort of re-marketing with your Facebook ads.
This plugin is easy to install and simple to use when you need to insert a pixel on your blog or individual blog posts.
Shareaholic – A free plugin that will allow you to have the upper hand in the highly competitive world of Social Media sharing.
With Shareaholic you get a comprehensive set of marketing tools to engage with your audience, get found across search and social, and grow your following.
Facebook Advertising Tools:
Ad Espresso – When it comes to creating Facebook ads, this is one tool that we can’t live without.
Ad Espresso has all the features of the Facebook Power Editor, but much more user friendly.
I hate the Power Editor by the way….. Bottom line make more money in less time with Ad Espresso.
Ad Espresso gives you the ability to split test, optimize, create multiple ads all in a few simple clicks.
No more creating multiple different ads in the ad manager to split test, as ad espresso has a feature that will do it for you just by checking off a few selections. It’s Facebook ads on steroids, I like to say.
Ad Espresso has many powerful features and again… it’s a tool we can’t live without.
You can test out Ad Espresso for free HERE to see if it’s right for you.
Facebook Post Automation:
Post Planner – Post Planner has been a great find for our business.
The great thing about Post Planner is if I’m ever stuck on what to post on Facebook…
I can always find amazing content ideas on this site.
From images, to articles, to status update ideas, and more.
You can schedule out all of your Facebook posts for the day or the entire year if you wish.
All scheduling can be done right from the Post Planner back office.
Another great feature with Post Planner is the share bar you can create to drive traffic to your website or to generate leads.
For example, I may find an interesting article from Entrepreneur.com and decide to share it with my audience.
When I create my share bar, just one time, I can add this to the top of the article I am sharing with my audience.
Once the viewer clicks on my status update to view the article they will see a share bar at the top where they can opt in to our list or visit our site.
This is a great feature to get more leads and traffic just by sharing articles found in Post Planner.
Facebook Integrations:
Sync Sumo – For those of you using Infusion Soft, Sync Sumo is a great program that updates your custom audiences within your ad manager.
Most open rates of emails are around 6%-15% out of all subscribers.
Knowing this we use Sync Sumo to automatically create a custom audience of our email subscribers within our Facebook ad manager.
As a result, we can create a Facebook ad and target our new custom audience on Facebook that consists of our email subscribers.
Another benefit is that the custom audience is updated every 24 hours.
So if you are adding new subscribers to your list daily, your custom audience is also growing daily via Facebook.
Landing Pages/Sales Funnels:
Clickfunnels – Click Funnels has a tremendous amount of customization available to your funnels and web pages.
They provide you with several different templates based on what you’re trying to create.
So whether you want to create a…
- Lead capture page
- Sales page
- Sales video
- Webinar registration page
… there are plenty of different themes and templates available.
Click funnels also has an affiliate platform built in if you want to run an affiliate program.
Without a doubt, Clickfunnels is an online marketing tool you’ll want to add to your business arsenal.
Metrics:
Google Analytics – Google Analytics is our go to tool when it comes to tracking behaviors & visits to our website.
It’s simple to set up and simple to use.
There are many different data points available with Google Analytics.
We primarily use Google Analytics to see how much traffic we are getting to our sites and to see from where the traffic is coming.
Email Marketing:
One of the most essential online marketing tools for email marketing is the autoresponder.
An autoresponder is a computer program that gives you the ability to send a series of emails, delivered when you want, to all of your email leads.
This process typically begins when someone subscribes to your email list and becomes a lead.
Getting an autoresponder should be one of the first investments you make in your online business.
Simply put, every online marketer needs an autoresponder, a place to house all of their subscribers.
So where do you start?
Aweber – is the go to company we recommend especially if you’re starting out. Aweber is easy to use and relatively inexpensive.
Infusionsoft – We use Infusionsoft to send all of our emails to our list. Infusionsoft is a more advanced and more expensive solution.
Video Hosting:
Vimeo – We use Vimeo to host all of our training videos that go into our membership sites.
The reason is because we can remove all the video hosting’s branding from the video.
There are many other great features to Vimeo when customizing your videos.
For example, where you want the viewer to go when your video ends, integration options, and other features that YouTube does not offer.
YouTube – The #1 video platform on the internet.
YouTube is great for uploading marketing videos used to build your brand, generate leads, and get more customers.
Video Equipment:
While the following pieces of video equipment may not seem like online marketing tools…
… they’ve been incredibly useful for us in regards to building our business online.
Polsem Lavalier Mic – Early on in our marketing career we just winged it when it came to making videos. Then we realized we needed to step up our game a bit.
Clear audio is one of the most important aspects to making a good video.
So we invested in a lavalier mic to attach to our clothing.
This gives us the ability to have crisp quality sound and we don’t have to stand so close to the camera to pick up audio.
Canon Vixia G21 – This camera gives us everything we’re looking for when it comes to recording videos.
Many of the cameras we chose previously didn’t have a plug in for the lavalier.
Furthermore, we’d need someone on the other side to focus as it did not have autofocus.
Not to mention, the recorded files were difficult to upload to the computer and edit.
This Canon is amazing and offers all the features we want but didn’t realize we needed until we made the mistake of buying other inferior cameras.
Rode Mic – There will be a time where you want to record a video from your smart phone and your standard lavalier mic won’t work.
The Rode Mic works great and is compatible with a smart phone.
Yeti -Blue Microphone – We love our Yeti mic and use it whenever we host webinars, Google hangouts, or recording our voices as we show our screen.
We have had our Yeti for almost 5 years and have no complaints at all.
Yeti now has several different options varying in quality and price.
Photo & Video Editing:
Screenflow – When it comes to recording our screens for a video tutorial or we want a back up recording for a webinar, we use Screenflow for all of our recording needs.
It’s easy to use and once you are done editing your video via Screenflow you can upload your video directly to YouTube, Vimeo, or Wistia.
Canva – Canva is a great program to create awesome custom designed images. There are thousands of photos and templates already available in Canva. Or you can upload your own photos and customize them however you want.
We use Canva to create our Facebook Ad images, Facebook status updates, and even our blog post images (like the one at the beginning of this blog post).
Jing – Need to capture an image on your screen or shoot a quick screen capture video in less than 5 minutes? Jing is our go to program!
In fact, we use Jing almost on a daily basis in our business. A definite must have!
Webinars:
GoToWebinar – Every marketer should consider hosting webinars as it can give a huge boost to your business.
Hosting webinars are a great way to sell your offers and train your team.
We have used GoToWebinar since 2010 and have no complaints at all. It’s reliable and fairly easy to use.
Trainings & Marketing Systems:
Elite Marketing Pro – EMP now offers a free 10 day bootcamp on Attraction Marketing called, AMF.
AMF is a great option for many new affiliates to promote as an irresistible offer to generate leads.
AMF is also a great program to invest in because it’s…
- Inexpensive (under $50)
- A great way to grasp the concept of Attraction Marketing and how you can use it in your own business
Most marketers miss this key component when it comes to building a business online, especially via social media.
I can spot a marketer failing a mile away and 9 times out of 10 it’s because they have not mastered Attraction Marketing.
Not only is Elite Marketing Pro equipped with…
- A lead capture page system
- A blogging platform
- Worldclass training
- A helpful and supportive community…
… but they also have coaching in place to walk you through the system and training to help groom you into an excellent online marketer.
Additionally, there are opportunities to attend workshops and live events throughout the year.
Facebook Marketing Training:
Social Media Branding Academy – I have seen a lot of Facebook trainings out there and I have analyzed them extensively.
After being in the Facebook marketing trenches for 9 years I can honestly say…
… most of these courses are missing key components to set you up properly for success.
I took all that into consideration and created the most extensive Facebook Marketing course that teaches the exact methods we use today in our own business.
So if you are looking to take your passion and build it into a profitable, money making business, then Social Media Branding Academy is the only Facebook training you’ll ever need.
Productivity:
When it comes to top online tools, the following productivity tools have been essential to our business’s growth.
Google Docs – great for creating and sharing documents with clients, teammates, or colleagues.
You can edit the share settings so other people can edit the document. Or you can restrict their access so they can only view the document.
Evernote – Evernote is a great app that keeps your notes organized. Memos are synched so they’re accessible anywhere, and searchable so you can always find what you need.
We use Evernote for note taking, organizing task lists, and first drafts of our blog posts.
You can even “clip” a webpage and save it in your Evernote folders.
Dropbox – Dropbox is a file hosting service designed to reduce busywork so you can focus on the things that matter.
Using Dropbox on your computer is just like using any other folder on your hard drive.
The difference being, the files you drag into your Dropbox folder automatically sync online…
… and to any other computers or mobile devices linked to your account.
Dropbox is a great way to share files with team members or colleagues.
WuFoo Forms – There will a time when you want to build a form to ask your audience questions. WoFoo is a great resource to do that whether it be via your website or via email.
The forms even integrate with many different merchant accounts if you want to use them to collect payments.
We use WuFoo to create strategy session forms, coaching request forms, surveys, and more.
Additional Online Marketing Tools:
WordPress Makeover – If you’re looking for a customized and branded website/blog… then look no further than our friends at WordPress Makeover.
They specialize in creating iconic personal blogs/websites for internet marketers just like you!
Need more proof? WordPress Makeover made our blog/website.
After you’re finished reading this article feel free to poke around the rest of our site to get an idea of their work.
Last Pass – Last but not least, LastPass is a freemium password manager that stores encrypted passwords online.
Simply put, LastPass makes and remembers passwords, so you don’t have to.
Look, many of the online marketing tools we’ve provided you above require a password.
If you’re anything like us, it’s a challenge to create and remember all the different passwords for all the different online marketing tools we require for our business.
(especially if they make you change the password every so often).
However, LastPass stores all of your passwords for you and you only need to remember one master password.
Plus, if you ever need to give a team member or assistant access to one of your accounts, you can share it via LastPass without giving that person your actual password.
