HOW TO GET UNSTUCK IN YOUR BUSINESS
Often times when I speak with or coach people who are relatively new to the home business arena their biggest challenge is how to get unstuck in their business.
So if you’ve also ever found yourself “stuck” and you want to learn how to get unstuck in your business then this article will explain to you how.
Let me share with you what I mean.
Have you ever said something like….
“I can’t do that because I’m not a _______ (blogger, FB marketer, Sales person, prospector, authority, video marketer, expert, etc)”?
If you want to become an authority on a topic and learn how to get unstuck in your business (or even if you just want to get some results) you have to immediately remove that sentence from your mind.
The bottom line is… who cares???
- What makes you a Facebook marketer is that you’ve ran a Facebook ad.
- What makes you a salesperson/prospector is that you’ve picked up the phone and talked to a lead.
- What makes you a blogger is that you’ve written a blog post.
What else are you waiting for….the hand of God to come down and anoint you the “King of Blogging” or the “Queen of Facebook”?
That’s not going to happen!
You won’t be anointed by God for anything in the online marketing/home based business realm… so stop waiting for it to happen.
If you want to be a video marketer then just start making videos. Likewise, if you want to be known as a blogger then start blogging.
THIS IS HOW PEOPLE LEARN HOW TO GET UNSTUCK IN THEIR BUSINESS AND EVENTUALLY BECOME AUTHORITIES
They start doing and doing and doing and then they become good at it.
Have you ever said….
“I’m not good enough at ________.”
Get over it!
Were you good at riding a bicycle the first time you tried to ride a bicycle?
Probably not (I know I wasn’t).
THERE ARE ONLY TWO OPTIONS: MAKE PROGRESS OR MAKE EXCUSES
Super quick story: the first real sales job I ever had was selling Kirby vacuum cleaners door to door.
The guy they had me “shadow” when I began my “hands on” training was a part time sales guy/full time vacuum repair guy.
That’s right… my Kirby vacuum sales training was spearheaded by a guy who was originally hired to repair used vacuum cleaners.
But somehow I got saddled with this dude for my sales training and development.
(and believe me….. he was WAY better at repairing vacuums than he was at selling them)
So… do you think I was very good at selling during those first several days that I knocked on people’s doors in an attempt to sell them a $1,395 vacuum cleaner??
But you know what?
I kept knocking on doors and guess what happened?
I got better.
IN LIFE AND IN BUSINESS IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW TO GET UNSTUCK IN YOUR BUSINESS THEN YOU’VE JUST GOT TO SIT DOWN AND GET BETTER AT IT
So, how do you get unstuck?
Lets go back to the riding a bike example.
You fall down… you get back up. You fall down again… you get back up again.
Were you good at Algebra the first time it was introduced to you???
How about a foreign language? Did you start in advanced Spanish 4 or Spanish 1 for beginners???
Remember there are only two options; make progress or make excuses.
Recently someone reached out to me to vent about how building an online business was too difficult.
Here’s what this person said:
“I just jumped into this thinking it wouldn’t be too hard to learn internet marketing. I see what you and Michelle post daily. I look at that and I know that is a lot of work.
I am not a blogger or a writer.”
To start with, for those of you who don’t know… building and running your own successful, profitable business is work.
Secondly, the moment that you say “I’m not a _______ (blogger, writer, salesperson, good marketer, copywriter, etc)…
And the only reason why you’re not is because you just slapped a label on yourself and conditioned your mind to believe that you’re not good at that particular undertaking.
Do you see how that works?
Do you see how easy it can be to be your own worst enemy?
I WANT TO LEARN HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY BUILD MY BUSINESS…. SO WHAT DO I DO?
So the best way to get unstuck is to change your vocabulary.
For example: instead of saying…
“I’m not a good _______, so therefore I can’t build this business.”
Say this instead….
“I’m not an expert at _______ yet, but I’m working towards becoming an authority on that topic.”
See the difference?
The first statement is a declarative statement with an explicit negative and defeatist tone.
The second statement is a much more confident statement with a positive, optimistic tone that conveys you might not be there just yet, but you will be.
The confidence and the optimism in the second statement carries weight and authority (even if you haven’t necessarily achieved that authority yet).
So if you’re struggling to figure out how to get unstuck in your business you need to first change the words that come out of your mouth.
BUT IT’S HARD FOR ME
“______ is hard for me.”
Okay, here’s the solution….
- Just start calling your leads.
- Just start writing blog posts.
- Just start cutting videos.
- Just start running some Facebook ads.
It may be bad at first…. hell it may be down right ugly!
But in order to learn how to feel unstuck you’ve got to begin doing something at some point to ever get the chance to accomplish something meaningful.
Furthermore, if you always hide behind the veil of “ ________ is hard for me” then you’ll likely remain in your current state of stagnancy and you won’t figure out how to get unstuck.
Here is what I want you to do IF you truly want to learn how to get unstuck in your business:
- Give yourself the chance to be surprised by your unrealized abilities
- Give yourself the opportunity to be impressed with what you’re actually capable of when you put your heart and your mind into a becoming something more.
- Give yourself permission to fail.
Yes, you read that last one correctly.
I want you to give yourself permission to utterly fall flat on your face just as you did when you were a kid learning how to ride a bike in your school parking lot.
I promise that you will find it empowering and liberating at the same time.
Success doesn’t just come and find you. You have to go out and get it.
Furthermore, learning how to get unstuck in your business can be as easy as taking action. Go learn something new that is imperative to your business and then apply it.
Even the smallest action will build momentum and lead you out of the quagmire and into a fluid state of taking action.
