How To Set Goals
Someone asked me the other day, “Michelle you are successful, so I want to ask you, how to set goals. I set goals all the time but never achieve them. Can you help me?”
Let me ask you, how many times have you set a goal or goals and have only fallen short? Let’s be honest you aren’t alone if you answered yes. In fact probably 99% of people who set goals never achieve those goals they set. Now why is that? I mean the intentions are good, the vision is there, but why do people give up on their goals?
I know for myself there was a time in my life where I set a goal and never accomplished it. Quite frankly I felt like a failure. I got fed up with myself and went out on a mission and the next goal I set was like no other. I had felt the passion and determination to accomplish it and I knew without a doubt this was a goal I was going to achieve. I didn’t express my goal to anyone other than myself. Once I accomplished that goal I felt complete and ready to take on the next goal!
So today I want to talk to you about how to set goals. There are 4 elements on how to set goals that are crucial to follow:
How to Set Goals – Have a vision
What do you want to achieve? This is not something like “I want to be rich” or “I want to lose weight”. No, you must be crystal clear on your vision and dig deep to discover what it is you want to achieve and how it will change your life. Think about how much better your life would be if you achieved this goal and be specific.
How to Set Goals – Have a compelling vision
Just the thought of your vision should fire you up and motivate you to excitement. Your vision should be so exciting that it wakes you up in the middle of the night with thoughts flooding your mind.
How to Set Goals – Make sure your reasons are big and strong
You will encounter obstacles along the way and if you reason isn’t bigger than your obstacle you will find it difficult to move forward. If you are crystal clear on your reason and have the fire behind you that drives it you will be able to bust through any obstacle that is put in your way.
How to Set Goals – Write it in a journal and review it everyday. Feel it and envision it!
It’s important to feel the passion and once you feel it you will be able to connect to the energy. This connection will help drive you faster towards your goals. Always be in the habit of feeling and imagining what it would be like to achieve your goal/goals. Think about what it feels like, tastes like, looks like and so on.
Have a vision my friend and know that this will be a great contribution to your total well being. I know for us we thrive on progress and results. How to set goals also comes with knowing how to raise our standards. If we lower our standards to achieve mediocre goals we won’t find satisfaction in achieving those goals and lack enthusiasm to move forward. Raise your standards and surround yourself with those who have achieved the goals you are seeking. Create a daily ritual and be consistent when it comes to achieving your goals. For example, if your goal is to achieve financial freedom then set aside time everyday to focus on personal development activities. I guarantee at the end of the 30 days, your rituals will have become a habits that you will more than likely continue.
